Twin Wooden Blades

Wood Scraps

Total Time: 1 Night

Whenever I work I try to add elements of play and I think playing is important for motivation and inspiration. It helps me tap into a flow state that is consistently reinforced by positive feedback. It also diminishes the stress of mistakes and imperfection that often drain my mental battery. So when I faced a mental block, I decided to do a side quest and make some swords… because I am just a boy and I like to play with toys. I started with a symmetrical piece of scrap wood and cut it in half. A couple diagonal cuts to the tips and the point of the sword was made. A router was used to give the bottom edge a concave fillet, this created the “edge” of the blade. The handles were then sanded and shaped to make each sword unique. There was also an existing cut out on the scrap and allowed the swords to interlock, making them a set. A couple friends and I decided to play fight with the swords to further each blades character with dings and scratches. All in all, this projects objective was purely for fun and it fulfilled that objective.
