Total Time: 3 Days

Day One: Cutting and Glueing Straps

I do not typically wear a belt but when I do, I rarely ever change the size. In an effort to streamline the process of getting dressed, I decided I wanted a belt without size adjustments and a quick, simple, and secure clasping mechanism. For this, I wanted to use Cobra clips. These clips are found in many military and tactical applications because they feature the COBRA® Quick Release, a fail proof design does not allow accidental opening under load.

I began with cutting two straps of leather and then glued them together to make it thicker. Then I took measurements of a belt that i already owned and found a circumference that allowed me both comfort and security. Marking those measurements on the strap, I added a few inches to the length. This is to account for the length lost when wrapping around the buckles attachment points as well as extra material to anchor onto itself. I cut the straps to length and finally, I soft assembled the belt with glue and after curing, I did a test fit. No changes were made.

Day Two: Sewing and Burnishing

I sewed the belt straps together for extra security and left a 1/4 inch seam allowance. With the belt full constructed, I started burnishing the edges of the leather. I found burnishing greatly reduces the friction a belt has with belt loops, creating a more effortless user experience.
